The Young Carers (Educational and Employment Support) Bill would require schools to identify and support pupils who have caring responsibilities at home. It would require schools to keep a record of these pupils, appoint a designated staff member to assist them, and provide targeted academic and wellbeing support, including help with exams, counselling and preparation for future employment through mentoring and skills development.
The bill is currently at its second reading in the House of Commons. If it progresses, it would move to committee stage for detailed consideration.
