This bill would establish an independent public inquiry into data breaches affecting applicants to the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP) and the Afghanistan Locally Employed Staff Ex-Gratia Scheme. The inquiry would be able to question current and former ministers, officials and other relevant people, and must report within a year of starting. It aims to explain what happened, how the government responded, and the legal decisions taken in relation to the breaches.
The bill is currently at the second reading in the Commons and would proceed through the usual stages if it gains support.
