The bill would require public bodies to plan and act with long-term wellbeing in mind—environmentally, socially, economically and culturally. It would set national wellbeing goals, require impact assessments on future generations, and create a Commission for Future Generations plus a futures and forecasting report; it would also extend duties on ministers, departments and the budget watchdog to promote and consider this principle.
The bill is currently at the 2nd reading in the House of Commons and originated in the House of Lords.
