The Bill would amend the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 to give school admission authorities the option to take account of local authority boundaries and other defined localities. It would also amend the Act to provide that the majority of members of a school admission forum should be lay members.
House of Commons
13 April 2010
This Bill would change how school places are allocated by letting admission authorities consider local authority boundaries and other defined local areas when placing pupils. It would also ensure that the majority of members on a local school admission forum are lay people (independent), rather than officials or teachers, promoting independence in decisions.
The Bill is currently at the second reading in the House of Commons, an early stage in the legislative process. It would need to pass further stages (committee, report, etc.) to become law.
