A Bill to require the Chancellor of the Exchequer to issue annually to each payer of Income Tax and National Insurance a statement detailing the payments made in the most recent tax year, the estimated payments to be made in the following tax year and a breakdown of the areas of government spending on which the payments are to be spent; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
1 May 2012
The Bill would require the Chancellor to send every payer of Income Tax and National Insurance an annual statement. The statement would show what they paid in the last tax year, what they are expected to pay in the next tax year, and a breakdown of how government spending relates to those payments. The aim is to give taxpayers clearer information about their tax and how it is spent.
The bill is at the 2nd Reading in the Commons. If it progresses, it would move to committee stage for detailed scrutiny, then to Report, Third Reading, and onward to the Lords.
