This bill would require the government to provide appropriate perinatal support to families expecting a child who, at birth, will be added to the Child Protection Register and for whom no adoption plan has yet been made. It also requires a decision on whether the child will be adopted to be made within one year of the birth. The aim is to ensure early support and timely adoption planning where relevant.
The bill is currently at Second Reading in the House of Commons, an early stage where its general principles are debated. It has not yet progressed to Committee or subsequent stages.
