House of Commons
26 April 2013
This Bill would require anyone standing for elected office in the United Kingdom to declare any political party they are a member of when they register to stand. The aim is to improve transparency by making candidates' party affiliations clear to voters and election officials. It would also set out how that information is collected and used during the registration process.
The Bill is at the 2nd Reading in the Commons. If debated and passed, it would move on to Committee stage for detailed examination, followed by further readings and potential Lords consideration.
