The Social Care Portability Bill would allow a disabled person’s social care package to be moved with them if they change local authority areas in England and Wales. It aims to keep support continuous and help people live independently, by setting out how local authorities should cooperate to port packages smoothly.
The bill is currently at the 2nd Reading in the House of Lords. If it progresses, it will move to Committee stage in the Lords, then Report and Third Readings, and eventually proceed to the House of Commons for consideration.
