The House of Lords (Maximum Membership) Bill would set a cap on the number of peers who can vote in the House of Lords and pause new appointments to the Lords. In effect, it aims to limit the size of the Lords and stop creating new peerages while the cap is in place. It is a Private Member's Bill introduced by Sir Christopher Chope in 2013 and is currently at the second reading in the Commons.
