A Bill to permit voters to recall their Member of Parliament in specified circumstances; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
15 May 2014
The Recall of Members of Parliament Bill would give voters a way to remove their MP in defined circumstances. It creates a process for a recall petition and, if the petition succeeds, triggers a by-election to replace the MP. It also sets out how the recall process should be run and the safeguards that apply.
The bill is currently at the second reading in the House of Commons. If it progresses, it will move to committee stage for detailed examination, before possibly moving to the Lords for consideration.
