This bill would require the government to set a target for the Low Pay Commission to raise the National Minimum Wage during the life of a Parliament. If the Commission cannot meet the target, it must write to the Secretary of State explaining why. It would also require the Secretary of State to ensure the Commission has the power to set up sector taskforces to address pay in certain industries.
The bill is at the 2nd Reading in the Commons. If it progresses, it would move to Committee stage, then Report, Third Reading, and potentially onward to the Lords for consideration.
