A Bill to make provision for the abolition of the Department of Energy and Climate Change and for its functions to be absorbed into the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
House of Commons
30 March 2015
This bill would abolish the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and transfer its responsibilities for energy and climate policy to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). It sets out how staff, budgets, contracts and programmes would move to BIS, with the aim of keeping energy, climate and related regulation functioning smoothly during the change. The overall goals around energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions would continue, but decision-making would move to BIS.
The bill is currently at the Second Reading in the House of Commons. The next stage is Committee scrutiny, followed by Report and Third Reading in both Houses.
