This Bill would change the Budget Responsibility and National Audit Act 2011 so that the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) can scrutinise and certify the policy costings of political parties represented in the House of Commons. In plain terms, independent assessment of the cost estimates behind party policies would become mandatory, making the fiscal implications of manifestos and proposals more transparent.
The bill is currently at the 2nd Reading in the House of Commons. It originated in the Commons and had its first reading on 16 July 2014.
