This bill clarifies the law around abortions carried out because of the baby’s sex. It sets out what would count as sex-selective abortion, and creates offences and penalties for acts done to obtain a child of a specific sex, while preserving legitimate medical grounds and safety protections.
The bill is at the 2nd reading in the House of Commons. If MPs approve the general principles, it will move to committee for detailed scrutiny.
