This bill would change the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 so that residential rented homes must be fit for human habitation. It would require landlords to provide and maintain properties to a habitable standard and give tenants clearer rights to seek repairs and compensation when homes are not fit.
The bill is currently at the 2nd Reading in the House of Commons. If it progresses, it will move to Committee for detailed examination, followed by Report and Third Readings before moving to the Lords.
