A Bill to provide for an English National Anthem for use at sporting events that involve individuals or teams representing England; and for connected purposes.
Sponsored by Labour MP Toby Perkins, this Bill would establish an official English national anthem for use at sporting events where England is represented. It would set out when and how the anthem should be used and give powers to designate the anthem and related duties to support its use. The aim is to have a standard national song used in England's sporting contexts.
The Bill is at the 2nd Reading stage in the House of Commons. If it passes, it will proceed to Committee stage and then to Report Stage and Third Reading before moving to the Lords.
