A Bill to restrict membership of the House of Lords by virtue of a peerage; to make related provision about disqualifications for voting at elections to, and for membership of, the House of Commons; and for connected purposes.
House of Lords
2 May 2017
This Bill would change who can sit in the House of Lords by tying membership more closely to holding a peerage, and it would adjust rules about who is disqualified from voting in general elections and who can sit in or stand for the House of Commons. In short, it aims to reform Lords membership and the related eligibility rules affecting the Commons and elections.
The Bill is at the 2nd Reading in the House of Lords. If it progresses, it would move to Committee Stage and then further stages, before potential passage to the House of Commons.
