The Kew Gardens (Leases) Bill gives the Secretary of State the power to grant land leases at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew for up to 150 years. It updates the Government’s management powers for Kew to allow long‑term leases of its land. The aim is to support maintenance, development and financial planning at Kew.
The bill is currently at the Report stage in the Commons (as of 24 March 2017) after completing 1st/2nd readings and committee stage; it still needs to pass the Lords and obtain Royal Assent to become law.
