The Housing (Tenants' Rights) Bill would set up a Living Rent Commission to study how rents in the private rented sector could be lowered and tenants’ terms improved. It would require the Secretary of State to report the Commission’s recommendations to Parliament. It would also promote longer tenancies, create a mandatory national register of landlords and lettings agents, and ban letting or management fees charged to tenants.
The bill is currently at the 2nd Reading in the Commons. If it progresses, it would move to committee stage for detailed examination.
