A Bill to grant EU citizens the right to stay resident in the UK following the UK’s withdrawal from membership of the European Union; and for connected purposes
House of Commons
28 April 2017
This Bill would give EU citizens who are living in the UK the legal right to stay in the UK after Brexit. It creates a framework to recognise and protect those residency rights and any related duties or protections. In effect, it aims to ensure people from the EU who have made the UK their home can remain here lawfully.
Generated 21 February 2026
This Bill was expected to have its second reading debate on Friday 12 May 2017.
However, as a General Election has now been called and Parliament will be dissolved from 3 May 2017, the Bill falls and no further action will be taken.
