This bill would let the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) take enforcement action against company directors if their company breaches the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 by sending unsolicited marketing. It aims to make directors personally accountable for such breaches, supplementing actions already available to go after the company itself. The bill covers related, or connected, provisions to make this approach workable.
The bill is at the 2nd reading in the House of Commons. It originated in the Commons and had its first reading on 13 September 2016; it has not yet reached committee or further stages.

This Bill was expected to have its second reading debate on Friday 12 May 2017.
However, as a General Election has now been called and Parliament will be dissolved from 3 May 2017, the Bill falls and no further action will be taken.
