A Bill to control the advertising and promotion of feeding products for babies and children; to establish arrangements to set standards for the efficacy of products and to measure claims against those standards; to make provision about penalties for advertisers and promoters who do not meet the standards; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
28 April 2017
The Feeding Products for Babies and Children (Advertising and Promotion) Bill would regulate how feeding products for babies and children are advertised and marketed. It would establish official standards for the products’ efficacy and require all claims to be supported by tests against those standards. It would also introduce penalties for advertisers and promoters who fail to meet the standards, with the aim of ensuring truthful, evidence-based claims.
The bill is currently at the second reading in the House of Commons. If it passes this stage, it would move to detailed committee scrutiny before progressing to further readings and consideration by the House of Lords.
Generated 21 February 2026
This Bill was expected to have its second reading debate on Friday 12 March 2017.
However, as a General Election has now been called and Parliament will be dissolved from 3 May 2017, the Bill falls and no further action will be taken.
