The Organ Donors (Leave) Bill would create a legal right to time off from work for people who donate body organs for transplant, by amending Part 8 of the Employment Rights Act 1996. It aims to set out how organ donor leave works within employment rights and to support donors in balancing donation with work commitments.
The Bill is at the 2nd Reading in the House of Commons. It first appeared in 2016 and would need further stages in both Houses (Committee, Report, Third Reading, then consideration by the Lords) to become law.
