The Air Travel Organisers’ Licensing Act 2017 created a licensing regime for the businesses that organise package holidays involving air travel. It is designed to boost consumer protection by requiring those organisers to hold a licence and meet financial protection rules. The regime is overseen by the Civil Aviation Authority and applies to package travel organisers and related travel sellers.
The bill has completed its passage and received Royal Assent, becoming law. It originated in the House of Commons.
Three Committee of the Whole House votes saw broad cross-party support: Labour, Lib Dems, SNP, Independents and Plaid Cymru voted Aye; Conservative MPs, DUP and Reform UK voted No. Sinn Féin and the Speaker are recorded as mixed.
