The Duchy of Cornwall Bill would change who can inherit the title of Duke of Cornwall by amending its succession rules. It would remove a range of legal powers, exemptions and immunities currently enjoyed by the Duchy, and it sets out how the Duchy’s legal matters should be handled by the Treasury Solicitor and other lawyers. It also includes related provisions dealing with the Duchy’s governance and legal framework.
The bill originated in the Lords. It completed its first reading in 2017 and reached a second reading in 2018, and is currently at the second reading stage in the Lords.
