This Bill would widen the system of Shared Parental Leave and Pay so more workers can take time off to care for a new child, including self-employed people. It sets out how leave and pay would work under the expanded rules and links these changes to other related rights for families. The aim is to give families greater flexibility and support around the arrival of a child.
The Bill is currently at the 2nd Reading in the Commons. It originated in the Commons and had its first reading in February 2018; if it progresses, it would move to committee stage and further readings.
