The Packaging (Extended Producer Responsibility) Bill would require producers of packaging to take responsibility for the end-of-life management of the packaging they put on the market. This includes organising collection, transport, recycling, disposal, treatment and recovery of packaging waste. The aim is to shift costs from the public sector to producers and improve recycling and waste outcomes.
The bill originated in the House of Commons and had its first reading in 2018. It is currently at the second reading in the Commons; no further stages are listed here.
