The Rail Passenger (Compensation) Bill would create a single nationwide compensation scheme for rail passengers across all train operators. It would require automatic compensation payments to season-ticket holders and some other passengers when service standards aren’t met, allow operators to reclaim some payments from Network Rail in certain cases, and set up a new body to administer the scheme.
The bill is currently at the 2nd reading in the House of Commons. It originated in the Commons and had its first reading in 2018; it would still need to pass through further stages in both Houses to become law.
