A Bill to enable electricity generators to become local electricity suppliers; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
19 September 2019
The Local Electricity Bill would let electricity generators become local electricity suppliers, enabling them to sell power directly to customers in their own local area. The aim is to support community energy projects and give local areas more control over the electricity they use, while fitting into the existing energy market. It would set out what counts as a local electricity supplier and how local supply would operate.
The bill is currently at the second reading in the House of Commons, the early stage of its journey. If it progresses, it would move on to committee scrutiny, then report, third reading, and finally consideration by the Lords.
