A Bill to make provision about the acceptance of Scottish banknotes throughout the United Kingdom; to oblige businesses and companies to accept Scottish banknotes as payment; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
Mr Alistair CarmichaelLiberal Democrat
19 September 2019
The Bill would require businesses across the UK to accept Scottish banknotes as payment and set out the rules for using Scottish notes. In essence, it aims to make Scottish banknotes usable nationwide and to clarify what happens if a business refuses to accept them.
The Bill is currently at the Second Reading in the House of Commons. If it progresses, it would move on to Committee stage, then Report and Third Reading in the Commons, before going to the Lords for consideration.
