This Bill would make it illegal to make an employee redundant while they are pregnant, while they are on maternity leave, or for six months after the end of pregnancy. It provides protection for pregnant workers from losing their job during these periods and includes related provisions to support this protection. It is a Commons measure currently at its second reading.
The Bill is at the second reading in the House of Commons. It was first introduced in 2019 and, if it advances, would proceed through committee, report and third readings before moving to the Lords.
