A Bill to amend the definitions of worker and self-employed person; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
11 June 2019
The Employment Status (Definitions) Bill aims to rewrite the official definitions of ‘worker’ and ‘self-employed person’ in UK law. By clarifying who falls into each category, the bill could affect who is entitled to certain rights and who is responsible for certain obligations under employment and tax rules.
The bill is at Second Reading in the House of Commons. If it passes, it will move to Committee for detailed scrutiny, then on to Report, Third Reading, and eventually onwards to the Lords.
