A Bill to amend the arrangements for making regulations, and provision for commencement of changes to the law, on abortion in Northern Ireland
House of Lords
12 September 2019
This Bill would change the way abortion-related regulations are made in Northern Ireland under the 2019 Act, and set how and when changes to the abortion law can begin. It is designed to make the process for implementing abortion provisions clearer and more predictable, including during periods when the Northern Ireland Executive is not functioning.
The bill is currently at the second reading stage in the Lords and would move to committee stage if it progresses further.
Generated 21 February 2026
First reading took place on 25 July. This stage is a formality that signals the start of the Bill's journey through the Lords.
