House of Commons
3 October 2019
The bill would give people a legal right to clean air and set binding targets to cut air pollution. It would create a National Clean Air Agency to police the targets, and push forward sustainable transport across road, rail, air and sea. It also sets rules on vehicles, including a phase-out of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030, and protects indoor air quality.
The bill is at its second reading in the House of Commons. If it moves forward, it would proceed to committee stage, then report stage and third reading, before moving to the Lords for consideration.
