The Schools (Mental Health and Wellbeing) Bill would require schools and academies to actively promote the mental health and wellbeing of their pupils. It would do this by amending the Education Act 2002 and the Academies Act 2010 to place this duty on schools. In short, the aim is to make mental health work an everyday part of school life.
The bill is currently at the 2nd Reading in the House of Lords. If it progresses, it would move to the committee stage for detailed scrutiny before moving on to the Lords and then to the House of Commons for consideration.
