House of Lords
5 May 2021
This bill aims to reform the House of Lords by introducing elections for members and setting out rules about who can sit in the Lords. It would create a framework for how Lords are elected and how membership is managed, along with related reforms to the Lords’ composition and powers, with implementation provisions for bringing the changes into effect.
The bill is currently at the 2nd reading in the House of Lords; after this, it will move on to the committee stage and then to the Lords' report and third readings before progressing to the House of Commons.
Generated 21 February 2026

Second reading - the general debate on all aspects of the Bill - is yet to be scheduled.
