This Bill would change how hereditary peers sit in the House of Lords. It would end the by-elections used to fill vacancies among the 92 hereditary peers, so vacancies would not be filled and the number of hereditary peers in the Lords would gradually fall.
The Bill is currently at the second reading in the House of Lords, with the first reading having taken place in June 2021. It will need further stages in both Houses before any changes could become law.
