This bill would make the Government declare a climate emergency and push ahead with a faster plan to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions. It would also require a new government strategy for climate action (including green jobs) and say Parliament should be told about ways to raise money from large companies to fund these objectives, while updating the Climate Change Act 2008 accordingly.
The bill is currently at the 2nd reading in the House of Commons and has not yet moved to committee stage. If it progresses, it would go through further readings and committee scrutiny.
