A Bill to abolish the Electoral Commission; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
29 April 2022
This bill would abolish the Electoral Commission, the public body that currently runs and regulates elections and referendums in the UK. It also includes related provisions, described as “connected purposes,” about what happens to its duties and assets after abolition.
The bill is at the second reading stage in the House of Commons. If MPs approve, it would move to detailed committee scrutiny before continuing to the Lords.
