A Bill to abolish the BBC licence fee and make the BBC a subscription service; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
29 April 2022
This Bill would scrap the current BBC licence fee and replace BBC funding with a subscription model. It aims to turn the BBC into a subscription service and sets out how the new funding would work. It also includes related provisions to enable that transition.
The bill is at its second reading in the House of Commons. If it progresses, it would move to detailed examination in committee and then continue through the normal readings before going to the Lords.
