The Asylum Seekers (Accommodation Eviction Procedures) Bill would let people seeking asylum challenge whether an eviction from asylum accommodation is proportionate in an independent court or tribunal. It would also set out formal eviction procedures for public authorities that run such accommodation, with the aim of making removals fairer and more accountable.
The bill is currently at the 2nd reading in the House of Commons, having previously completed its 1st reading in 2021. The next steps would normally be committee stage and further readings if it progresses.
