This bill would give indefinite leave to remain (permanent residency) to health and social care staff working in the UK, with related provisions to support the sector. In effect, it aims to make it easier for doctors, nurses, carers and other health workers to stay in the country long-term, by granting permanent residency. It also covers connected immigration measures to assist the health and social care workforce.
The bill has had a 1st reading in 2021 and a 2nd reading in 2022. It is currently at the 2nd reading stage in the House of Commons and would require further readings and committee scrutiny to progress.
