A Bill to require the Secretary of State to report annually on restrictions on access by UK nationals to Tibet and Xinjiang in comparison with other regions of China; to make provision to deny persons involved in imposing such restrictions permission to enter the UK; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
4 May 2022
The Tibet and Xinjiang (Reciprocal Access) Bill would require the UK government to publish a yearly report on how easy it is for UK nationals to travel to Tibet and Xinjiang, and how those restrictions compare with other parts of China. It would also allow the government to deny entry to the UK for people involved in imposing those restrictions, along with related measures to support reciprocal access.
The bill is at the second reading stage in the Commons. If it progresses, it would move to committee stage for detailed examination, then on to further readings in the Commons and potentially the Lords.
