A Bill to amend the Scotland Act 1998 to grant legislative competence for employment matters to the Scottish Parliament.
House of Commons
29 April 2022
The Devolution (Employment) (Scotland) Bill would give the Scottish Parliament the power to make its own employment laws by amending the Scotland Act 1998. It transfers legislative competence for employment matters from the UK Parliament to Holyrood, enabling Scotland to legislate on employment rules in the future. In short, Scotland would gain its own ability to set employment policy.
The bill is at the 2nd reading in the House of Commons. It will next go through the committee stage and then on to further readings, before moving to the Lords.
