A Bill to introduce the optional preferential voting system for Parliamentary elections; and for connected purposes.
House of Commons
4 May 2022
This bill would introduce an optional preferential voting system for parliamentary elections. Voters could rank up to a chosen number of candidates on their ballot if they wish, while the traditional single-vote option would remain available. The aim is to give voters more choice without making voting more complicated for those who prefer to vote in the current way.
Currently at the second reading in the House of Commons. If it progresses, it would move to committee stage for detailed consideration, then to report and third readings, and finally to the House of Lords for consideration.
