A Bill to provide that powers devolved to Senedd Cymru must not be amended or withdrawn without a super-majority vote of its elected members; and for connected purposes
House of Lords
1 November 2023
This Bill would require that any change to powers devolved to Senedd Cymru (the Welsh Parliament) can only be made if a super-majority of its elected members votes in favour. In other words, significant changes to Wales’ powers cannot be approved by a simple majority. The measure also covers related and connected purposes beyond the main idea.
The bill is at the 1st reading stage in the Commons and originated in the Lords. Next steps typically include committee scrutiny and further readings before it could become law.
