House of Lords
3 November 2023
The Women, Peace and Security Bill [HL] aims to strengthen the UK's work on conflict prevention and peace by backing women's participation in peace talks, mediation and diplomatic missions. It also requires UK policy—especially foreign and defence policy—to routinely consider gender and respond to women’s needs in conflict and post-conflict settings, with related purposes included as needed.
The bill is at its first reading in the House of Commons. It originated in the Lords and will proceed through the usual stages in the Commons before moving back to the Lords.
