The Education (Non-religious Philosophical Convictions) Bill would ensure that non-religious worldviews are included in the school curriculum and would require representation of people who hold such convictions on RE governance bodies. It would require that those with non-religious philosophical beliefs are represented on Standing Advisory Councils on Religious Education (SACREs) and at Agreed Syllabus Conferences. In short, it broadens who participates in decisions about religious education in schools.
The bill is currently in the Lords and at the 2nd Reading stage (3 February 2023). Further stages are required in the Lords for it to progress.
