The Care Bill is intended to set out provisions for meeting the needs of people who provide care and of people who receive care, and to cover related purposes. It aims to strengthen support for carers and those receiving care, linking with broader health and social care policy. It is currently at the first reading in the Commons, starting its passage through Parliament.
The bill is at the 1st Reading in the Commons, beginning its journey through Parliament. After this stage it would move to Committee, Report, and Third Reading in both Houses.
The attached voting records relate to amendments and new clauses to the Health and Care Bill in late 2021. Overall, Labour and other opposition parties tended to back amendments, while the Conservative side largely opposed; a few amendments passed (for example New Clause 49, 272 Aye to 246 No) and others were defeated. This reflects broad cross-party support for certain proposals and Conservative resistance to others.
