If enacted, the bill would require the government to publish a Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) for every piece of legislation it introduces, covering both primary legislation (new laws) and secondary legislation (rules made under existing laws). It would also create sanctions for failing to publish or properly complete RIAs, with the aim of improving transparency and accountability in policy making.
The bill is at the Second Reading in the House of Commons. It began in the Commons (first reading in June 2022) and has had two sessions of Second Reading in October 2023; no further stages are recorded here.
